Now it's official

Yesterday our mail was finally figured out. We've been without mail for a while. Nothing for 2 weeks. I finally wrote the post office on the post office website a week ago and asked them where my mail was? They wrote back questions about my forwarding request. Then I received a note from our new postal carrier last Saturday saying "There is something wrong with your forwarding mail and you need to fill out a new request"

I couldn't believe it, because it is only Iowa City to Iowa City that we moved. So I asked my carrier where my old address mail could be since it wouldn't go to that address since we knew the postman there and he knew we moved. She said,"Oh it's probably on hold at the main post office and you can pick it up there. So Monday I went there and they found 1 piece of mail and gave it to me and said "Here you go, we found it!" I told her that couldn't possibly be all of it because some days I'd receive up to 10 letters a day. So she made a couple calls and found out that our mail had been transferred to a post office nearer to our new address. She then said you can go there and pick it up. Right as I'm about to leave she said, wait, I'll call over there and see if it's there just in case it isn't. Sure enough they didn't have it either. Meanwhile I guess our carrier had picked it up to deliver the huge wad of mail that was waiting in limbo for us.
So last Tuesday we received a huge amount of mail that took me quite a while to go through. It was great to receive all the missing items. Most I could have done without, but there were important items that I'm glad to have. Then Friday we finally received for the first time the "Welcome packet" from the post office saying that our mail was officially going to forward to us and then yesterday we received a couple letters with the official yellow sticker on it. So I guess now it's finally official that we moved since the government has found us.

We've recently had forwarding issues as well. Jen ordered a Father's Day gift for me from Amazon.com and had it shipped to her parents' house. We lived there for a year and when we moved, we set up a forward to our new house. Well, that forward has since expired, so the post office wouldn't deliver it to Jen's parents' house. The gift went back to Amazon.com and we were refunded the money.

What a joke.

We have had similar problems. We did a change of address when I moved to Maryland so I could get the bills and then we filled a change of address form out when we moved here. We started getting Mike's parents stuff because their last name is Richards too! So we had to fill out another one that just said Mike Richards. We still get their things some times. And then when we went to your house for the six weeks, we filled out a forwarding address and we only got one piece of mail the entire time. So dumb. We are getting some of our mail now but David said he sent a letter and we haven't gotten it so I think it got sent to the wrong place or sent back to him. Sad.
