Finally Over

We signed the papers yesterday on our new home and we slept here last night. No more moving. EVER!!!

Here is how the last 4 days went.

Sunday Jared, Daniel and I were violently sick, thowing up till our bodies just shook and nothing came out anymore. We couldn't even lift our heads off the pillows till late Sunday night.

Monday bright and early we all traveled an hour away to pick up a truck since there was nothing closer. (By the way, never go with U-Haul because the 3 experiences we have had with them have all been awful and they are rude) This time we went with Penske moving trucks and it was a completely different experience and so different that they gave Jason & I 30% off the truck since we had to travel to Davenport, Iowa to get it and they are waving the local dropoff and letting us return it at 8a.m. today in Iowa City and calling it "local" And they threw in a truck dollie for free and didn't charge it and they were just plain nice.

After retreiving the truck Monday morning we packed the truck all day. Only 3 people showed up. Thank goodness they are stong because that piano was a bear. Jason made his same comment that he always makes when we move, "We are selling this piano and never moving it again, next time it goes with the house."

Tuesday at 3:30a.m. in the hotel Caleb started barfing and this continued all day. Poor guy was so sick he missed school and as a result missed his band concert Tuesday night and he had a solo. I feel so bad for him.

Tuesday we cleaned all day, it was going well until the children came home from school and wanted to go to the hotel to swim. It started raining so that couldn't happen. Each child must have asked at least every 15 minutes when we were going back to the hotel. Problem was, we weren't done cleaning so they had to wait in the house and drive us completely nuts. Meanwhile there was literally nothing to do since the house was empty and nothing to play with or watch while we cleaned.

We cleaned that house till 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night with the children all crying to leave, then we took them back to sleep at the hotel, got up at 5:30a.m. Wed. morning to go back to the house while Caleb babysat them in the hotel, then we rushed back for 1 more good hour of cleaning by ourselves.

At 3 minutes till 7a.m. on Wednesday morning we finished cleaning. The new girl's walkthrough was 7:15a.m. so we just made it.

We went back to the hotel at 7:00a.m. and got the children ready for school. Took them to school and then signed papers on the new house at 10a.m.

Started moving in Wednesday at 11:00a.m.

So as you read it's now over, all of it. We slept among piled boxes last night, and I can't find my contact case to put my contacts away, and the children can't find most of their stuff, but it doesn't matter because we are finally in a house that we actually like and we can say we kinda own it.
We will just unpack now and stay happy in Iowa. Come visit us anytime.

Thank goodness it's over!!!

Congrats on getting in the house. Sorry it sounded like it was a stressful experience. I think Mike and Adrianne can feel your pain.

Let's hope this summer will be a good one for the new homeowners in the Midwest!

I commend you for cleaning the house when you left! I hate it when people don't do that and before you can move in, you have to clean the new place. I'm sure your new owner appreciates that. Was the new place cleaned for you?

Sorry everyone is so sick! Are the kids out of school yet? It's no fun for them to miss those last fun days of school.

Good luck getting settled into your new home.

I feel your pain, as Jess said. I'm grateful it is over and now you just have to unpack.

Our new place was cleaned for us, however all the drawers in the kitchen and bathrooms were not cleaned out and all the shelves in the house were not cleaned out either.

Also the garage wasn't swept out at all.

However even with all of this, I didn't mind at all, just so glad to be out of the house we didn't like. We really like this new house and I can see us being there a really long time if Jason stays with his job.

The children are out of school next week.
