Catching up with the Lokodi fam

Hey there. Okay, so this is going to be random, but my life is random (so enjoy). First of all, it rained so hard last night I thought we would be flooded out of our appartment on the second floor. We were driving home last night when the rain/thunder and lightning started. So we had to run from our car to the front door, and on the way, we got so wet, I could ring my clothes out. I felt like I had just jumped in a swimming pool. It was very much needed though. All the grass had begun to die. It was a nice break from the heat, although today is back to being hot.

Hans and I went up to the Netherlands (or Nederland like the Germans say) on Saturday. We went up to give David his suit that mom and dad sent to us. It was a good excuse to take he and his companion out to lunch. David looks really good. I always forget how big he actually is until I'm standing next to him. He even makes Hans look short. He seems very happy but a little depressed that he never gets any actual letters from anyone. He wanted to know the scoop with the family and I tried my best to update him, but I'm kind of out of the loop too. Well, Hans doesn't think so because our phone bill seems to get bigger and bigger every month he he he. David's companion is a really nice, quite guy. They seem to work well together. We took them to a really good chinese restuarant up there, then left. We didn't want to stay too long because of the whole distraction thing. I promised him I wouldn't keep coming up (well, at least until right before he leaves to come home. I do have to show him the baby anyway right?!).

After we left he and his companion, Hans and I decided to drive the additional 45 minutes west to the beach in Den Haag. It was really great. We didn't get there until around 5:00 in the evening, but we stayed two hours and had a wonderful time. We have decided that since we met in the ocean, it's a sign that we need to live on the beach! We both are so much happier when we're there. It's amazing to see the stress on Hans' face completely disappear as soon as he lands on that beach. He's automaticlly turns into a little kid. It's quite fun to be around him when he's not under any stress about work or other things. If the beach is what it takes for him to be stress free, I'll take it!! Anyway, it took us four hours with no stops to drive back home (thank heavens for the autobahn which has no speed limit).

One more side note, I just got called to serve in the nursery in our new ward. They said they would release me when I have my baby. In that case, I hope I have Eva early! No, it will be okay I guess. I just won't be able to get know any of the women in the ward because I will be in nursery the whole time. There are 12 children in there. I think I will begin to understand why women actually use birthcontrol after this calling. I guess it will help me to know to pray for a mild tempered child right?! Well, there's my random update. I hope you all don't die of bordom from it. Have a great day everyone!

Lindsey, we're glad you made it up to see Dave. We do struggle with sending actual letters, although we seem to keep in decent email contact. We bought a bunch of 80 cent stamps, but don't seem to use them enough. Jen and Abby sent him a letter last week, so hopefully that will cheer him up a little.

Visiting the beach certainly is fun. I like visiting the ocean a lot, and not necessarily a nice sandy beach. It's a different sort of environment than what any of us grew up in, so it's fascinating to go and observe that type of environment.

Have fun in nursery. We did our time. We still had two kids.

Nursery will be a fun calling for you, you may end up loving it. There are some people that do so well in there and others that just can't wait to be released. If you sing lots of songs with them, they will love you.

I just received a new calling yesterday. I am a Relief Society teacher. It will be interesting since I've never taught a church class over 15 minutes before. Last time I taught anything at church was enrichment and that was while I was pregnant with Scott.

I agree with all the comments so far but I also want to add that Nursery is the perfect place for a woman with small children. You can just sit them in a corner or hold them and as they get older they can play with the other kids. I loved being in Nursery with Will. I'm worried now because I don't know what to do with Will and Isaac when they are both not in nursery yet and both Mike and I are teaching classes. It is going to be insane for a few weeks.

Well, sounds like everything is going well. Never been in nursery, but I do have 10 sunbeams and with Henry with us too, it gets challenging. All the little sunbeam girls line up to sit on my lap every Sunday, so we have a rotation now, with 2 on my lap at a time. It's a lot of fun, but some days it is a struggle. You will find that some days they all just fall apart. But, it's been a great calling. I must say, that receiving kids straight from nursery, I have noticed a difference when they have come from great nursery leaders. This year's group is a lot more in tune with things and better behaved and they know more. I hope you can do that for the sunbeam teachers ahead of you. smile. Adam

Hey Adam. I was just thinking about you guys. Where have you been lately? I thought you fell off the face of the earth. So, are you trying to scare me by putting that kind of pressure on me?! The sunbeam kids in my last ward were the most horrid bunch of kids I've seen in a long time. But, you're right. The nursery leaders they had before they came to primary weren't doing anything productive with them. I'm excited for this calling. Thanks for the advice everyone. I can't believe Michelle hasn't taught a lesson longer than 15 minutes! It's your time girl! :)
